What is a dental bone graft?
A dental bone graft adds bone material to your jaw where the bone has shrunk or is too thin to support a dental implant. The graft material integrates with your existing bone over a few months, giving the implant a solid foundation to anchor into. Most dental bone grafts are minor procedures done under local anaesthetic.
Do I need a bone graft for a dental implant?
Not always. Around 70% of patients have enough jawbone for a dental implant without a graft. The other 30% have lost bone over time (typically after a tooth extraction or long-term denture wear) and need a bone graft first. What is a sinus lift for dental implants?
A sinus lift is a specific type of bone graft for the upper back jaw. The sinus floor is gently raised and bone graft material added beneath it, creating room for upper jaw dental implants in patients whose upper jaw bone has shrunk. Sinus lifts are routinely performed as part of upper jaw implant treatment at our Hammersmith London clinic.
Can I have dental implants with bone loss?
Yes - dental implants with bone loss are routinely possible with the right treatment plan. Options include: bone graft + delayed implant (most common), bone graft + same-day implant (where conditions allow), All-on-4 implants (which use angled placement to avoid grafting), or zygomatic implants (advanced cases). Can I have a bone graft and implant the same day?
In some cases yes - bone graft and implant the same day is possible when the bone deficit is small and the remaining bone is healthy. How long does a bone graft take to heal?
Most dental bone grafts take 3-6 months to fully integrate with your existing jawbone before an implant can be placed on top. Small grafts may heal faster. The healing process is mostly painless after the first few days post-surgery. Standard pain relief manages any discomfort.

Having priced up the same implants on the South Coast I found Dental by Design a lot cheaper . I had my whole top jaw teeth replaced by Dr. Mechoui having been worried by the process I found him and the surgery excellent at making me feel relaxed and informed at all stages. The finished result has exceeded my expectations and I would thoroughly recommend Dental by design to anybody who is thinking about the process. Ps they don’t look anything like’Turkey’ teeth, very natural looking and feeling.

I visited plenty of dental practice before I came to see DBD. They all gave me the sweet talk and complications in having it done. I felt like, with all the complications, it’s not worth going through it. For every complications, there’s a corresponding charge. With DBD, everything was straight forward. On my free assessment, Dr Rob gave me lots of encouragement and reassurance. On the day of my procedure, nurse Elisa and Dr Rob made me feel at home and the feeling of outmost care. The receptionist were all very nice and they new my name as I entered the door. Isabella was so caring even with the aftercare calls. Overall, my experience with them has been well worth it in terms of affordability, skills, quality of care and the friendly and clean atmosphere. I will definitely spread the news about DBD.
